Dr. John C. Witt
Neurologist & Sleep Medicine
Dr. John C. Witt has been a neurologist with the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic since 1999. He graduated summa cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in mathematics, and received his M.D. from the University of Chicago. He trained in neurology at Barnes Hospital of Washington University, where he was also Chief Resident and elected to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, before completing a fellowship in Electromyography with the Mayo Clinic. After serving as Chief of Neurology for the 99th Medical Group, United States Air Force, where he was awarded the Group’s Physician of the Year and the Meritorious Service Medal, he entered private practice in Murfreesboro. Dr. Witt has published several journal articles on topics in clinical neurophysiology, and has received grants or research awards from the National Institutes of Health, the University of Chicago, and Mayo Clinic. He is board certified in Neurology and in Vascular Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is on the medical staff at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, where he serves as Medical Director of the Stroke Program, and was previously a recipient of the MTMC Clinician of the Year award. He is also on staff at Stones River Hospital where he is the Medical Director for Inpatient Rehabilitation, and previously directed their Sleep Center.
In addition to general neurology and sleep medicine, Dr. Witt’s professional interests include multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular disease, cognitive disorders, and electrodiagnostics. He lectures regionally on topics in neurology and sleep medicine. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing and teaching scholastic chess, traveling, learning foreign languages, and church activities. He is delighted to be one of the newest affiliates of the Sleep Centers of Middle Tennessee, and the first Medical Director of Sleep Medicine at the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic’s new center.
