These disorders are much more rare than the dyssomnias. Some of the most frequently-seen parasomnias are:
- Sleepwalking & sleeptalking (sometimes occur as part of:)
- REM Behavior Disorder (RBD)
- Motor activity and/or talking during REM sleep
- Usually involves acting out of dreams
- Nightmare Disorder
- Usually occurs during latter half of night, during REM sleep
- Easily aroused from episode, readily recalls event
- Sleep Terror Disorder
- Occurs during first third of night, during deep sleep
- Usually confused, difficult to console, unable to recall part of all of event
- All of the above are diagnosed with a PSG, and are usually treated with medication
